Nominations are open for consideration of the Rising Star Award at the annual Hunter Manufacturing Awards.

Registration takes 5 minutes. Applications are open until 30th August 2020. If you have been unable to meet the deadline, please contact HMA to make an alternate arrangement.

Whilst our focus for this award is the development of young leaders, a more mature aged person successfully building a leadership capacity will be considered.

Definitions & Guidelines

Nominations are open to any employee from a manufacturing company who has made an outstanding personal contribution to a manufacturing business through their leadership ability.

Focus of the Category

This category recognises employees who display exceptional leadership attributes with less than 5 years’ experience in the industry who are having a positive impact on the business in which they are employed.  It may be an apprentice or trainee, a university graduate, operators, or general workers who have demonstrated commitment to the business, ideas, drive and strong personal values.

This category is to be determined through an interview process, with the Board to appoint a panel of at least two experienced judges to conduct the interviews.  Candidates are encouraged to bring a portfolio of their work to the interview and any reward and recognition evidence they may have.  Tone of the interviews will be relaxed and informal with the candidate encouraged to tell their story.

Examples of how the nominee has demonstrated personal integrity through managing issues involving the need to be courageous and make the ‘right’ decision rather than the easy one.

  1. Resilience and Persistence

Examples of how the nominee has demonstrated persistence and resilience in a range of situations that were challenging and difficult to resolve.  What was the challenge?  What did they do to address the challenge and what was the outcome?

  1. Teamwork

Examples of how the individual has demonstrated the ability to work alongside others in a team situation and support high levels of performance from the team.

  1. Team Leadership

Examples of how the individual has demonstrated the ability to provide effective leadership to a work team.  How did they approach the role?  What key attributes have they identified that make their leadership style work?

  1. Safety Leadership

Examples of strong, consistent commitment to safety.  Where have they demonstrated the ability to identify an opportunity to improve the health and safety of the workforce.  What steps did they take to go from identification of the opportunity to successful implementation?  How have they supported ongoing compliance with new initiative?  What measurable outcomes were achieved?

  1. Continuous Improvement Leadership

Examples of contribution to continuous improvement (Incremental improvement).  Where have they identified an opportunity to improve an element of the work system, analysed it, developed a plan, executed it, monitored results and evaluated the effectiveness of their strategy.

Examples of contribution to innovation (Substantive new idea).  Where have they been able to identify an opportunity to introduce a new way of doing something that has had a significant impact on productivity or costs?
